I answered the doorbell, to find a man with a notepad standing outside.

“Good evening. I am from ——— and we have just re-done the cabling around your apartment. What this means is that we can increase your internet speed to 30mbps. And if you take this deal, you will also get cable for free!!”

“I’m sorry,” I said, “but I must decline. I am leaving for India next week.”

“But you will be back from there after your vacation, right?”

“No, I am going back for good.”

“Hmmm. I’m from Brazil, and sometimes I too feel like leaving everything here and just going back.”

I smiled in answer.

“But don’t you like this country,” he asked. “It’s so nice…”

“Oh yes, it’s nice,” I said. “It’s beautiful, actually. But it’s not home.”
